Linksys Wireless G routers allow multiple computers to use the same Internet access point without being connected to the broadband modem. Only one computer and the Linksys router need to be connected to the modem. All other computers can tap into the network. Along with computers, other devices such as wireless printers, game consoles and mobile phones enabled with Bluetooth technology also can access the Internet through the Linksys router.

Step 1

Connect the broadband Internet modem to the computer using an Ethernet cable. Insert one end of the Ethernet cable into the modem Internet port and the other end into the computer Ethernet port.

The following IP address is the most common to login to Linksys routers. Most common ip: 192.168.1.1 (47%) Other IPs for Linksys routers: Linksys default IP addresses Note that this still differs between Linksys models and to be sure that you are trying to reach the correct ip check your specific model from the list below. If you have changed the default router IP you will have to reset your router in order to be able to access it there. Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Sign In If you have not yet created a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account, click the 'Create Account' button in the upper right corner of the page.

Connect the Broadband modem to the Linksys Wireless G router's 'Internet' port using an Ethernet cable. Connect the computer to one of the Linksys router's four Ethernet ports using another Ethernet cable.

Step 3

Plug the router into the power outlet. Turn on the router and modem, and make sure the all LED lights on the front of each device are lit. Turn on the computer and launch the Internet browser.

Step 4

Enter 'http://192.168.1.1' (without the quotations marks) into the browser's address bar, and press 'Enter.' The Linksys setup page will display.

Step 5

Enter 'admin' in the user name and password fields. Then click 'OK.'

Step 6

Look for the 'Local IP Address' on the router setup page. Change the address to '19216821' and click 'Save Settings.'

Step 7

Click the 'DHCP Renew' button. Then enter the address 'http://192.168.2.1' into the address bar again.

Step 8

Select the 'Status' tab and verify that numbers are listed after the 'IP Address.' If there are numbers, the computer can access the Internet. If there are only zeros listed, follow the instructions in the next steps.

Click the 'DHCP Release' button, then click 'DHCP Renew.'

Enter the following address into the browser's address bar again: http://192.168.2.1.

Step 11

Locate the 'Internet Connection Type' on the web-based setup page again. Choose 'PPoE' on the drop-down menu.

Enter the user name and password provided by your broadband Internet service provider. Click 'Save Settings' and press the 'Status' tab which should say, 'Connected' next to 'Login Status.'
